Recycling history

The water board of Stichtse Rijnlanden is looking for a new destination for the giant doors of an historical sluice near Gouda. The sluice divides the tidal part of the Hollandse IJssel from the regulated part. Circular Landscapes advised on recycling options, in cooperation with architect Txell Blanco and visual artist Asia Komarova. Starting point is to place the doors on the yard of the water board main office in Houten. It could be a monumental gate with a sluice poem referring to it’s history. Or it could be returned to nature, with overgrown vegetation and new habitats for birds, butterflies, and bees. Another option is to have a social workshop saw and hammer the solid wood into architectural models, playful objects or fish sculptures.
