Kwatrijn
Kwatrijn is an animal and energy friendly dairy barn with above-average space for cows. The transparent design and unique roof shape ensure that the Kwatrijn barn fits seamlessly into the landscape and offer the public free views of the activities inside. As solid manure and urine are disposed of in separate streams, ammonia emissions are much lower than in traditional barns.
The first pilot barn was built in Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands, in 2015. Circular Landscape's Pieter Veen designed the barn's unique shape and participated in the winning entry to the Small Business Innovation & Research programme, together with Wageningen UR Livestock Research, consultancy agency Antonissen Agrarisch Advies, dairy farmer Sjaak Sprangers, the Southern Agriculture and Horticulture Organization (ZLTO) and other partners.
