Food mapping
In this ongoing research project we develop graphic tools for presenting different flows on and around a modern farm, and their complex interconnections. In the first place these are physical flows of feed, fertilizers, cattle, milk and other food products, and secondly connected flows of nutrients, money and energy. We focus on individual farms as well as larger food chains and agricultural regions.
Thus we want to open up the ‘black box’ that farming is to many people and promote a more realistic view on the sector. Furthermore understanding agricultural flows is crucial for designing alternative business models and food strategies.
Partner is Noël van Dooren, lector on Sustainable Urban Foodscapes at Van Hall Larenstein university of applied sciences. Governmental funding was received for a first pilot on dairy farms.
