Feeding the City

Feeding the City

This project investigates how food chains can be made more sustainable in conjunction with strengthening of regional economies and other goals such as more sustainable water management. Circular Landscapes developed a planning method that combines an ecological systems approach with the financial principle of local investment cycles ('plugging the leaks'). We believe that this will significantly speed up the transition to a circular economy. This is tested in case studies for an urban food park (Food Campus Twente), a regional food network (Food Web Twente) and an urban farming challenge in Almelo.

The results of our research were presented at the international IFLA Congres 2016 and used as input for the national environmental plan of the Dutch government (NOVI).

Our partners include: Trends & Concepts, Vista Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, the Province of Overijssel, the University of Twente and the township of Almelo. Financial support came from the Creative Industries Fund NL.
