Farming with nature

In the nature reserve of the Maashorst in Brabant the largest agro forestry farm of the Netherlands is being built. On a surface area of 25 hectares perennial crops are mixed with animal grazing according to the principles of permaculture. No artificial fertilizers or pesticides are used and all food products –nuts, fruits, berries, corn, vegetables, eggs, dairy and meat- are sold in the immediate vicinity. The national fund for nature inclusive local farms supplies initial investments and specialist knowledge.

Circular Landscapes is responsible for landscape planning and all visual representations of the concept. Partners are farmer Wilco de Zeeuw (BoerInNatuur) and permaculture specialist Sjef van Dongen (Fruitzforlife). The project won a prize in the contest ‘Bread and circuses’ of the national board of governmental advisors on spatial matters.
